High Holy Days 2020/5781 Appeal

Dear Kehillat Kadimah Community,

Although not all of our kehillah were able to attend services over Rosh Hashanah, those who attended can attest that the spirit, vibrancy and sense of community we have for each other remains strong, and at this unusual time, is even intensified.

Prior to the pandemic, our Kehillat Kadimah community had significant momentum and energy. We welcomed many new members who joined our community, we had increasing numbers of people becoming actively involved in daily and weekly activities in our centre, and we enjoyed broader recognition across Sydney that our community was 'the place to be' for thriving Modern Orthodox Jewish families. There were more events and smachot being held on an almost weekly basis, which led to extremely high engagement and significantly increased use of our building.

To continue this momentum post Covid, we have achieved some milestone events this year to provide the stability required:

  • South Head & District Synagogue coming out of administration.
  • Kehillat Kadimah securing a further five year lease, ensuring the continued long term presence of our community in the building.
  • Implementing structures so that the events that led to the insolvency of South Head & District Synagogue never occur again.
  • Commencing the search for a youth leader/couple to reinvigorate our offering so that our children and youth are a core focus of our community.
  • Taking steps to turn our building into an active community centre for Jewish life in Rose Bay, more than just a place for shul services.

This year, for obvious reasons we will not all be together in shul for Kol Nidre for our annual appeal. However, as in past years, I ask you to support our community as you would have traditionally done so during this time. Your donation will enable us to grow and invest in our community and our future.

The goal for our campaign this year is to raise well over $250 000, which is in line with what we would typically receive across the High Holy Days in previous years. Your donation will enable us to continue to grow and invest in our community and our future.

We understand the financial diversity of our community, particularly this year. However, I urge you to think about the future needs of our community. Please help us plant the trees today, so that our future can enjoy the benefits in the coming years.

Please show your support and commitment to our community by completing the form below.

On behalf of the whole Board, and from my family to yours, wishing each and every one of you Shanah Tovah Umetukah and G’Mar Chatimah Tovah. We pray for peace in Israel and for the time when we all come together once again in good health and happiness.

Yours sincerely,

Barry Meskin

Chairman, Kehillat Kadimah
